Our class is excited to announce that we are having a Young Author's Tea Thursday, May 24 at 11:00 in our classroom.  Students have been working very hard on their stories, poems and other writings just for this special event.  All parents are encouraged to come and admire your child's hard work.  Refreshments will be serves as well.  We hope you can attend!

April 1, 2012

There have been some changes to the newsletter calendar for the month of April.  There will not be a spelling list given out until the week of April 23rd (after FCAT).  There will also not be a reading the week before FCAT.  There will just not be enough time for our usual schedule as we prepare for this testing in the next couple of weeks.

March 25, 2012

Welcome back to school! I hope all of you had a wonderful spring break. We are getting much closer to reading and math FCAT.  We are going to be working very hard on both subjects for the next few weeks.  We will especially be covering a lot of math.  Please do your best to have your child at school each day unless they are ill.  This way they won't be too far behind.

February 24,2012

There are still four students who have not returned their permission slip for Tallahassee.  These forms need to be notarized and turned in as soon as possible.

February 12, 2012

There will be a note coming home with your child this week that will let you know what we need from you for the Tallahassee trip.

January 12, 2012

Graded papers and citizenship will be sent home on Monday.  Because of my absence on Thursday, I was not able to get everything together by Friday.  Thank you!

January 10, 2012

I will be at a worshop on Thursday, January 12.  This means our class will have a substitute on this day.  We are going over a very tough reading selection on the Constitution this week.  I feel that there is just too much to cover in one week, so we will have our reading test Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.  I will notify the students of the exact day of the test as we get closer to finishing the selection.

January 1, 2012

Can you believe we have already made it half way into the year?  It has been a wonderful year so far and hope that all of you have had a very restful break.  As we begin the second half of 4th grade we are really starting to "buckle down". This is just a reminder for all students to be prepared everyday.  Any homework assignments not turned in will result in a circle lost. Which means if a student leaves their notebook at home or school they could lose up to three circles for all assignments missing.  My class knows that THEY are the ones responsible for keeping up with their things.  Also, students with a D or F average citizenship, bus or classroom referrals may not attend the Tallahassee trip.  I hope that all students will come back ready to learn on Monday!  See you all tomorrow.

Just a reminder that the first half of donations for the Tallahassee trip are due by Wednesday, November 30th.

November 6,2011

If you have not turned in the Tallahassee letter, please do so as soon as possible. Thank you!

November 1, 2011

There is a note about the Tallahassee field trip going home with your child today.  Please fill out the information and return it by Friday.

One more thing:  If anyone would be willing to donate an old pumpkin to our class I would appreciate it.  Next week we are going to be talking about why things rot, and I would like to sit a pumpkin outside our portable to watch how it changes from day to day.

October 30, 2011

Just a couple things:

1. Remember tomorrow is vocabulary hat day!  We are doing hats that have similes on them.  I'm excited to see what each student comes up with!

2. I was told not to send report cards home tomorrow.  I was not given ay information as to why and I don't know when they want us to sent them out yet.  I'm sure it has something to do with the new grading program we have.

October 9, 2011

The school has asked that students do NOT dress in Halloween costumes on Monday, October 31st.  We do plan on having a "Vocabulary Hat Day" instead.  This is a day when students can wear hats and props that corespond with the vocabulary topic our classroom has chosen.  Students can be as creative as they want with these hats.  Fourth grade plans on having a competition to pick the most creative hats.  I am still in the process of thinking of a theme for our class.  I really like the theme of similes.  Example: hungry as a horse, cries like a baby, smooth as silk, sick as a dog, etc.  I think we can really be creative with this theme.  I will send home a note with your student soon with more information.

October 2, 2011

Please make sure your child turns in their lunch choice for the field trip by Monday.  Also, I am asking that all field trip permission slips be turned in by this Friday, October 7th.

We are also going to be doing a project for Native Floridian Villages and each child will need to bring a shoe box to school by this Thursday for their project on Friday.  I will be sending a reminder note home.

Thank you!

September 25, 2011

The air conditioner in our portable stopped working last Thursday.  Since then we have been having class in the library.  It does not look like it is going to be repaired any time soon, so I am planning on having class in the library for most of the week.  Students can still meet in our classroom to gather things that we need before we head over there. I say all of this just to let you know that I may be a little scatter brained by having class in two different places.  Please accept my apologies in advance.

September 18, 2011

I made a "booboo" and left all the spelling lists at school over the weekend.  This means your I will not have this week's spelling list posted until Tuesday.  I will, however continue to go over the new list with all students on Monday.  Because of my "booboo" I will not require spelling homework for Monday evening.

September 5, 2011

Don't forget that there will need to be at least three entries in your "At Home Reading Log" by Tuesday, September 6. We will also have our first spelling test on Friday, September 9.  This means there will be spelling homework through out the week to prepare.

Thank you and have a wonderful Labor Day!

September 1, 2011

Graded papers will be going home with your child on Friday, September 2.  Since I have not quite given out any tests, this weeks papers will be mainly composed of any handouts completed.  The only things going into the grade book are the writing and citizenship.  Next week expect to have more graded papers attached.

Your child's citizenship grade for the week is also attached to these papers.  Please sign it and return it on the next school day (Tuesday).

August 31, 2011

I will have one full day to have conferences with each parent on September 23.  I will be sending home a note within the next couple days for you to choose your first, second and third choice for times.

We made it! Our first week of the school year is over.  Everyone is starting to get used to the routine and all is going well.  I want to apologize for not updating the website last week.  My internet has been down at my house. I am actually at a friend's house now using their internet.

I am going to change the spelling tests to Friday's because we will have three different spelling groups.  Next weeks spelling lists are posted.  I will let your child know which group they are in on Monday.
